Disability Leadership Needed on Governor's Taskforce Against Gun Violence

August 12, 2019

Last week, Governor Newsom announced that, in light of the mass shootings, he will expand an existing task force to focus more on gun violence, white supremacy, etc. He specifically mentioned it will include civil rights leaders.

California Foundation for Independent Living Centers (CFILC) is offering to provide letters of support for people with disabilities interested in applying.  The details of this task force are still being determined but if you are interested and want support, please contact CFILC’s Disability Organizing Network here.

To inquire directly with the Governor’s Appointments Unit, you can just call  916-445-4541 and inquire about “the expanded task force that he announced at the media event on August 5.”  There may be no need for a state application form and just a letter and resume may be sufficient. Also, stay up-to-date by  regularly checking the Governor’s website (gov.ca.gov).
